Encouraging A Positive Inner Voice

We say it in every CDI Teach session: "the more specific you are with your praise, the more likely your child will repeat the behavior that you praised." Just think if you praise your child for being kind, how many more kind acts you might see? Praising gentle hands and you see them softly petting the dog. Or praising them for helping and then your two-year old starts helping with laundry. <---True story! Like this quote says: "it becomes their inner voice."

When you feed positivity and praise into your child, it becomes their inner voice. It becomes who they are. It is carried over into how they talk to others. And it doesn't stop there. It takes a few seconds to give a labeled praise to your child but the impact is truly immeasurable. - Katie Smith
