Live, In-Person Training. The first 3 Days will be conducted in San Antonio, TX and focus on the first phase of PCIT (Child-Directed Interaction). The remaining 2 Days will be conducted via Zoom and address the second phase of PCIT (Parent-Directed Interaction).

About the Event

Overview of the In-Person PCIT Training at the Hotel Palacio del Rio in San Antonio

  • This Live, In-Person Training course is the first step to Certification in PCIT.
  • This PCIT Training is a 5-Day course that separated into two workshops. 
  • The initial, 3-Day, Live Workshop will be conducted at the Hilton Palacio del Rio in San Antonio, TX. This 3-day workshop will focus on the first phase of PCIT - the Child-Directed Interaction (CDI) Phase. 
  • The second, 2-Day, Live Workshop occurs approximately 8 weeks later and will be conducted via Zoom. This 2-day workshop is designed for the second phase of PCIT - the Parent-Directed Interaction Phase.
  • Trainees who want to become Certified in PCIT must attend both workshops.
  • This Live, In-Person PCIT Training is conducted by three Certified PCIT Global Trainers.
  • This in-person training provides an interactive learning environment with PCIT experts and other trainees.  The training also provides opportunities for trainees to practice newly acquired PCIT skills through role plays, mock sessions, breakout sessions, and other related activities.

Continuing Education Credits - American Psychological Association (APA)

  • Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Inc. is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
  • Participants will receive 19.0 APA Approved CE credit hours upon successful completion of the CDI Workshop.
  • Participants will receive 13.0 APA Approved CE credit hours upon successful completion of the PDI Workshop.
  • Participants are not required to attend both workshops to receive CE credits, each workshop is independent

Continuing Education Credits - National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

  • Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Inc. is also approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
  • Participants will receive 32.5 Approved NASW CE credit hours upon successful completion of both the CDI & PDI Workshops.
  • Participants are required to attend both workshops to receive NASW CE credits.

  1. Reference at least 2 research articles discussing the evidence supporting the effectiveness of PCIT
  2. Name at least 2 diagnoses that PCIT is designed to treat
  3. Describe 3 codes within the DPICS Coding System, and provide 2 example verbalizations for each code
  4. Describe the rationale/purpose of at least 3 codes within the DPICS Coding System
  5. Explain the purpose of the priority order in DPICS coding
  6. Explain the purpose and benefits of the Child Directed Interaction (CDI) phase of PCIT
  7. Identify the 5 PRIDE skills used in the CDI phase of PCIT
  8. Identify the 3 Avoid skills in the CDI phase of PCIT
  9. Explain the rationale for providing PRIDE skills and refraining from the Avoid skills in the CDI phase
  10. Describe 3 benefits of Special Time homework
  11. Explain the rationale for reviewing CDI homework with parents every session
  12. Explain the rationale for utilizing active ignoring
  13. Explain the number of verbalizations a caregiver needs to demonstrate during a 5-minute coding period in order to meet CDI mastery criteria
  14. Describe 2 different coaching techniques used in CDI
  15. Identify 2 locations (or formats) where PCIT services can be delivered
  16. Identify the 10 procedural steps in a CDI Coaching session
  17. Identify 2 strategies that can be used to address CDI coaching challenges

Educational Objectives for the PDI Workshop

  1. Describe the purpose and benefits of the Parent Directed Interaction (PDI) phase of PCIT
  2. Identify at least 3 guidelines of effective commands
  3. Describe the time-out procedure that is used in the PDI phase of PCIT
  4. Explain 2 differences in coding between the CDI and PDI phases
  5. Compare and contrast coaching in the CDI and PDI phases
  6. Identify 2 strategies that can be used to address PDI coaching challenges
  7. Explain PDI to a Child during a role-play situation with a trainer
  8. Explain the House Rule procedures during a role-play situation with a trainer
  9. Explain the Public Behaviors procedures during a role-play situation with a trainer

Audience

Mental Health Professionals who have a Master’s or Doctoral Degree in a mental health field (Clinical, Counseling, School, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, Psychotherapy, Psychiatry) or related mental health discipline and are licensed to practice and provide mental health services through their state board, province, or country.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Due to limited seating, you may request to cancel your registration for a full refund, up to 60 days before the first day of training. This gives us the opportunity to offer your seat to another individual. To cancel, please send an email to contact@pcit-training.com. If you cancel within 60 days of the first day of training, we offer a credit to your account, but do not offer refunds. You may use these credits towards any future PCIT training offered by Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Inc. The training credit can be transferred to another individual. When you register for PCIT training, you agree to these terms.

Training & Certification Requirements

The intended audience for PCIT training includes clinicians who have a master’s degree or higher (or an international equivalent of a master’s degree) in a mental health field who are independently licensed mental health service providers, or license-eligible and working under the supervision of a licensed mental health service provider. Alternatively, clinicians may be advanced psychology doctoral students who are conducting clinical work under the supervision of a licensed mental health service provider.

All licensed mental health professionals (and license eligible clinicians) who are legally and ethically qualified to provide mental health services with children and families within their state, province, or country are eligible for Certification in PCIT. 

It is the responsibility of the trainee, not Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Inc., to ensure that they are legally and ethically able to provide PCIT services within their state, province, or country. If you have additional questions regarding your ability to legally and ethically provide PCIT services (and get reimbursed for mental health treatment), we encourage you to contact your professional governing body within your state, province, or country.
